Farewell!

After an emotional farewell with the children and staff at FANO school and the families at Waterloo library...

We are both back home in Liverpool!

We would like to thank all of the staff at FANO school and Waterloo library for making us feel welcome and we look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Medical centres and football

Today we visited Waterloo and Kissi Town medical centres. We met some new mums and babies who were less than an hour old.

The staff told us about some exciting developments in Sierra Leone. Medical treatment is free for children under 5 and breastfeeding mothers. We were delighted to see the school in the back of Waterloo medical centre. Over 40 local women were training so that they can help to deliver babies out in local villages.

We spent the afternoon with Mike Jolliffe and Paul Rolston at the Craig Bellamy Accadamy. The children from our partner schools in Waterloo played in a tournament. Basa Town A school were the ecstatic winners who took the trophy back to school.

Later on, we cheered our Liverpool colleagues as they beat the teachers from Sierra Leone 6-3 in a friendly match.

Little listeners goes global!

Today was a very exciting day. Margie and Chantelle were delighted to be greeted by a crowd of over 200 school children and parents who eagerly joined in with a little listeners session. The session was held outside in the blazing African heat!

The afternoon was spent in the library working with the families who could not afford to go to school and further training the library staff.

The families we worked with were very thankful for all of the resources donated by the Anfield Community.

Thank you to everybody in Anfield for your generous donations!

FANO School

Another fun day with our friends in Sierra Leone. Today was a bank holiday so library was shut so we worked in our partner school in FANO.

Margie was in nursery class doing stories, craft activities, outdoor activities, and setting up a story corner.

Chantelle was in class 1 doing small group reading activities, music movement, and watched how peppermint rock was made.

After school we visited the "seeds and tools project" in Warterloo which helps women who lost husbands during the civil war in Sierra Leone.

Waterloo library

Today we spent the day with Rosetta and her team at the Waterloo Library. We spent time with the children from Hope Prep School helping to deliver a reading class to a large group of children.

We trained the library staff to deliver their very own Little Listeners language enrichment session. They are very excited to work with the children from the community who cannot afford to access education.

The library were very thankful to receive the generous book donations from CODEP UK. Today we were helping to organise and file the books so the children can easily access the reading materials they need.

We're looking forward to spending the day with All Saints Primary at FANO school tomorrow! Margie will be teaching in the nursery with Miss Freckleton and Chantelle will be teaching with Miss Dowler in Year 1.

We really enjoyed today and we had a lovely welcome from our friends in Waterloo.

Hi,

With just over a week to go, Margie and I have decided to share a Sierra Leone Blog. We'll keep you updated on all of our preparations ahead of the trip and hopefully post some photos while we're there too!

So watch this space...
